Taste

Taste is generally mixed up with flavor, though it is just a part of the flavor and comes from the taste buds on the tongue. Sweet, salty, sour, bitter, and umami are the five taste sensations that stimulate the taste buds.

What is taste?

Taste is generally mixed up with flavor, though it is just a part of the flavor and comes from the taste buds on the tongue, an input from the taste buds of the molecules in the food. Sweet, salty, sour, bitter, and umami are the five taste sensations that stimulate the taste buds.

Different areas on the tongue have taste buds sensitive to distinct taste sensations. Taste buds sensitive to salty taste sensations are on the sides and front, sweetness on the tip, sourness on the sides, and bitterness towards the back of the tongue.

Sense of taste may differ from individual to individual. It is quite a subjective experience and is hard to quantify precisely.
